Evening/Overnight Traffic Impacts on I-71/75 in Kenton County Beginning Monday, July 28

Crews will be performing soil boring work

COVINGTON, Ky. (July 28, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of evening/overnight traffic impacts on Interstate 71/75 in Kenton County beginning Monday, July 28. Crews will be performing soil boring work near the locations listed below.

Tentative Schedule of Work

Monday, July 28

  • I-71/75 southbound right two lanes closed from between Buttermilk Pike (KY 371) and Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) at the 187 mile marker, to northeast of Kyles Lane (189 mile marker), a distance of 2.0 miles. These lanes will be blocked between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. All lanes reopen at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

Tuesday, July 29

  • Fourth Street (KY 8) and Crescent Avenue ramps on to I-71/75 southbound will be blocked. Access to Pike Street (U.S. 25) and Texas Turnaround will be maintained with a single lane by using I-71/75 southbound to Exit 191. The lanes/ramps will be blocked between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. All lanes/ramps reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday, July 30

  • I-71/75 southbound single right lane closure from the Kentucky/Ohio state line (191.6 mile point) to I-71/75 southbound on-ramp from Martin Luther King Junior Blvd. (KY 1120) (190.2 mile point), a distance of 1.4 miles. 
  • The I-71/75 southbound exit off-ramp to Pike Street (U.S. 25) will be blocked.
  • These traffic impacts will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. All lanes/ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday, July 31

  • I-71/75 southbound single right lane closure from the Kentucky/Ohio state line (191.6 mile point) to 189 mile point, a distance of 2.1 miles. The lane will be blocked between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. This lane will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday.
  • Access to the exit off-ramps at Fifth Street (KY 8), along with the Pike Street (U.S. 25) and Texas Turnaround will be maintained.

While this work is being performed during evening/overnight hours -- motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and find alternate routes to avoid any potential delays. Appropriate signage will be in place to warn motorists of the upcoming work. 

Weather permitting, this soil boring work is expected to be completed Friday, Aug. 1 at 5 a.m.
