UPDATE: 10-Foot Lane Width Restriction in Effect at U.S. 51 Bridge Project in Carlisle County
Traffic reduced to one lane on U.S. 51 just north of Arlington
PADUCAH, Ky. (July 17, 2025) – A 10-foot lane width restriction is now in effect along U.S. 51 in Carlisle County, where a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is continuing work on a bridge replacement project.
As part of the ongoing construction, traffic on U.S. 51 near mile point 1.7, just north of Arlington, is reduced to one lane. A temporary signal is in place to manage alternating one-way traffic flow.
Additionally, access to Railroad Street at its intersection with KY 877 and U.S. 51 is closed.

PADUCAH, Ky. (July 3, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans an extended lane restriction along U.S. 51 in Carlisle County, beginning Tuesday, July 8, to allow for the construction of a new bridge.
The restriction will be in place near mile point 1.7, just north of Arlington. Traffic will be reduced to one lane, with a temporary signal controlling alternating traffic flow, until the project is completed.
As part of the project, access to Railroad Street at its intersection with KY 877 and U.S. 51 will be closed.
During Phase 1, an 11.5-foot lane width restriction will also be in effect.
Traffic signals and signage will be installed on Monday, July 7, ahead of the lane restriction going into effect the following day.
Jim Smith Contracting is serving as the prime contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed by April 30, 2026.
