Reminder - Resurfacing operations scheduled for Main Street in Lexington

Milling and paving

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 17, 2025)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that this news release serves as a reminder. Resurfacing operations are scheduled for Main Street in Lexington. The project will be located between Midland Avenue and Newtown Pike.

Milling work will begin first. Milling is the process of removing the existing asphalt surface. Resurfacing (adding a new top layer of asphalt) will start once milling has been completed. Lane closures will be in effect and motorists can pass through the work zones. The traveling public should expect delays.

Sunday, July 20 through Thursday, July 31 7 p.m. evenings until the following mornings at 6 a.m.

Main Street

  • operations will be located between Midland Avenue extending North to Newtown Pike
  • the project limits are between milepoints 13.4 and 14.6 (01.20 miles)

The schedule is below:

Milling:

  • Sunday, July 20 - Midland Avenue to Esplanade
  • Monday, July 21 - Esplanade to the Tandy Pavilion
  • Tuesday, July 22 – the Tandy Pavilion to Rupp Arena
  • Wednesday, July 23 - Rupp arena to Newtown Pike
  • Thursday, July 24 - make up day if delayed by weather (9 p.m. until 6 a.m.)
  • Friday, July 25 – no work will be performed
  • Saturday, July 26 - no work will be performed

Paving:

  • Sunday, July 27 – Midland Avenue to Esplanade
  • Monday, July 28 - Esplanade to the Tandy Pavilion
  • Tuesday, July 29th – the Tandy Pavilion to Rupp Arena
  • Wednesday, July 30 - Rupp arena to Newtown Pike
  • Thursday, July 31 - make up day if delayed by weather (9 p.m. until 6 a.m.)

All work and/or closures are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.

District 7 includes: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford Counties
