Resurfacing to Begin on I-69 in Madisonville this Weekend

Project scheduled to be completed before the end of August

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (July 11, 2025) After almost six months of repairs and preparation work along a 4.34-mile section of I-69 in Madisonville, crews are preparing to begin the final phase of the project this weekend, which will see new asphalt applied to the entire length of the project. Work during this phase is planned to take place between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Beginning the afternoon of Sunday, July 13, the southbound fast lane (left lane) will be blocked from the118.15 mile point (KY 2657/Fowler Road overpass) to the 113.81 mile point (in front of the mall) at around 4 p.m. to begin milling the roadway. Upon completion of this lane, work will then move to the northbound fast lane, the southbound slow lane and then the northbound slow lane in order. The new asphalt base is expected to be finished by July 29. Exit and on-ramps along the pathway will be temporarily closed as base is applied to the slow lanes.

Once the base is completed, crews will begin paving the roadway following the same order: southbound fast lane, northbound fast lane, southbound slow lane and northbound slow lane. Paving is expected to be completed by the end of August.

From Sunday until paving is completed in August, lane restrictions through a portion of the project will be lifted each morning. Lane closures in both directions from the mall area (113.8 mm) and Island Ford Road/KY 281 (116 mm) will be lifted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Closures from Island Ford Road to the end of the project at the Fowler Road overpass (118.15 mm) will remain in place until the project is completed.
