Vintage Car Race Making Its Way Across the Bluegrass
Motorists should watch for rally vehicles traveling from Owensboro to Frankfort
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (June 24, 2025) – Motorists in Central Kentucky should be aware that the 2025 Hemmings Great Race will be making its way from Owensboro to Frankfort tomorrow, Wednesday, June 25.
The vintage car race got underway on Saturday in St. Paul, MN and is making its way slowly towards Irmo, SC, where the event will conclude on Sunday. On Tuesday, racers left Springfield, IL, stopped for lunch in Effingham, IL and then concluded the day with a car show along the Owensboro River Front.
The 120 vintage automobiles, which must be at least 40-years-old, will roll out of Owensboro early tomorrow morning after the driver/navigator team is presented with specific route details for the day. Until teams are given directions tomorrow morning, organizers will keep the specific route details under wraps.
The plan for the day is to leave Owensboro in the morning, and arrive at Swope’s Cars of Yesteryear in Elizabethtown by 11:30 a.m. for lunch. In the afternoon racers will make their way from Elizabethtown to Frankfort, ending the day on Broad Street in Downtown Frankfort around 4:15 p.m.
The following morning the race will head from Frankfort to Ashland before moving through Ohio and West Virginia.
Racers are expected to follow all posted road regulations, but all competition vehicles display stickers that warn they may sometimes be slow moving or make sudden stops.
