Preventive Maintenance Work Begins This Week in Kenton and Campbell Counties
Motorists should expect lane closures and traffic impacts on KY 17, U.S. 27 and U.S. 25
COVINGTON, Ky. (June 23, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that a preventive maintenance project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 24, on multiple routes in Kenton and Campbell counties.
The project includes crack sealing, electrical work and application of a thin asphalt overlay known as a thinlay. Thinlays are used as a pavement preservation treatment to restore surface conditions and extend the service life of roads that are still structurally sound.
Crack sealing operations will take place first. Once complete, the sealed areas will require a 30-day curing period before paving can begin. Pavement work is tentatively scheduled to begin in late July.
Work schedule:
-
Madison Pike (KY 17), Kenton County — From Moffett Road (KY 2042) at mile point 7.97 to just north of KY 14 at mile point 4.94. Work is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic.
-
Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27), Campbell County — From Bluegrass Avenue at mile point 20.49 to Moock Road (KY 1632) at mile point 19.84. Work is scheduled overnight on Wednesday, June 25, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during this time.
-
Dixie Highway (U.S. 25), Kenton County — From Hallam Avenue at mile point 6.26 to Carran Drive at mile point 7.88. Work is scheduled overnight on Thursday, June 26, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during this time.
- There is a possibility this work could begin a day earlier, on Wednesday, June 25, if work on Alexandria Pike is completed ahead of schedule.
Prior to paving operations on Dixie Highway, crews will remove the existing Qwick Kurb lane separators from the southbound left turn lanes into Crestview Hills Town Center. The exisiting Qwick Kurb will be reinstalled following completion of the thinlay.
KYTC District 6 will issue updates through our District 6 Roadshow and social media channels once the paving schedule is finalized.
Motorists are advised to use caution, follow all posted signage and be prepared for potential delays in work zones.
Eaton Asphalt Paving Co., Inc. is contracted to perform the $1.03 million project on behalf of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The project has a completion date of Sept. 30, 2025.
