District 7 personnel continue to patrol routes

Signage, barriers and cones for high water should remain in place

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 17, 2025)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises that District 7 forces patrolled routes on Friday night. Operations included removing downed trees, contacting utility companies to remove downed power lines, and scanning roadways for high water.

Maintenance personnel continue to monitor roads today. When necessary, crews place signage, barriers and cones in areas that have high water and flooding. When the water recedes, and roads are deemed safe, “Road Closed” signs, barriers and cones will be removed.

Motorists should never drive around signage, cones or barriers. They are placed for the safety of the traveling public - flooded or damaged roads may not be visible until it’s too late. It is of the utmost importance that cones, barriers and signage not be removed or relocated to different areas. Never attempt to drive through standing or flowing water.

The traveling public should be aware of possible debris such as small tree limbs, and gravel that has washed out. Now is a good time to make sure that your vehicle has an emergency care kit. It should include jumper cables, flares or reflectors, windshield washer fluid, an ice scraper, blankets, nonperishable food, a first aid kit, and traction material.
