Traffic Paint Striping Begins on Wednesday, May 14 for KYTC District 1
Mobile operation will refresh roadway striping across the district
PADUCAH, Ky. (May 13, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will begin districtwide roadway traffic paint striping this week.
Weather conditions and high traffic volumes can cause pavement striping to fade over time. This project aims to refresh faded markings and improve safety for motorists in all 12 counties in District 1: Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, and Trigg.
Starting around midday on Wednesday, May 14, crews will begin work in McCracken and Graves counties, then move to Ballard County the following week.
The mobile paint caravans will be active during daylight hours, weather permitting, and will continue working in various counties in District 1 over the next several months.
While much of the striping will be along rural secondary highways, some work will also take place on Interstate 69 in Graves and Marshall counties and on other four-lane highways.
There will be no lane closures or flaggers, as the mobile crews will be continuously moving along the roadways.
Each mobile caravan will consist of a lead vehicle with sweeping capabilities, a striping truck, and support vehicles to warn motorists of the mobile work zone and possible wet paint ahead.
Use caution when approaching or passing these slow-moving caravans. Although traffic paint is designed to dry quickly, motorists should avoid driving over freshly painted lines. Drying time depends on humidity and wind conditions but typically takes about four minutes.
The project was awarded to Reynolds-Central Seal, a Joint Venture, under a $2,157,000 low-bid KYTC contract. Weather permitting, the overall project has an expected completion date of Aug. 15, 2025.
