Media are invited to attend event in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 9, 2025) – Media are invited to attend the Kentucky Department of Highways District 7’s annual safety training event scheduled for Tuesday, May 13 at 3115 Kearney Road, Lexington. The event, informally called the Equipment “Roadeo,” features highway technician training with snow plows, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and other roadway maintenance equipment as well as a friendly Olympics-style competition.
Ensuring proper training and skills is a key part of Team Kentucky’s commitment to safety and excellence in highway operations to provide services for all Kentuckians.
What: District Equipment Roadeo – Safety Training Day
When: Tuesday, May 13th/9 a.m. EDT
Where: The District 7 Equipment Garage parking lot, 3115 Kearney Road, Lexington
During the roadeo, crews will attend safety sessions on equipment handling, communications, fire suppression, and other topics; and, they will perfect their skills on each piece of equipment, focusing on safety first.
Among training events media will see are truck and grader road courses to test precision driving skills, and a backhoe competition where operators use agility and speed to maneuver golf balls with a spoon-like attachment on the backhoe bucket.
