Weight Limit Reduced to Three Tons on Richardson Road (KY 842) Bridge in Boone County

Signage has been posted warning motorists of new restrictions

COVINGTON, Ky. (May 6, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has posted a three-ton weight limit on a bridge on Richardson Road (KY 842) in Boone County. The bridge is located east of Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) over the railroad tracks at the 0.12 mile point.

While the bridge remains safe for vehicular traffic, a recent inspection found some deterioration. KYTC bridge engineering analysis shows the weight limit reduction is needed as a precaution, and to prevent further damage until the bridge can be repaired. KYTC is working with the railroad company to coordinate a repair plan. We will provide updates once the bridge repair project has been scheduled.

The reduced weight limit will impact school buses from using the bridge at this crossing. The crossing's previous 12-ton reduced weight limit already limits use by fire trucks, loaded garbage trucks, loaded tractor trailers and Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) buses.

Prohibited vehicles can detour using Industrial Road (KY 1829) or Mt. Zion Road (KY 536).

Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. For the most current information on road construction in Northern Kentucky, please visit the Driving Northern Kentucky Progress website or the District 6 Roadshow.
