Public Feedback Encouraged for “Rebuild Mayfield” Downtown Revitalization Project
Community reviews preliminary design at public meeting
PADUCAH, Ky. (Apr. 18, 2025) – After the catastrophic December 2021 tornado, the City of Mayfield was awarded a $25 million RAISE grant in 2024, which will be paired with state funding to revitalize the downtown streetscape, including upgrades to roadway and utility infrastructure, as well as enhancements to safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
On Apr. 17, 2025, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) hosted a public meeting at Graves County High School to present preliminary plans for the Rebuild Mayfield project and gather feedback from community members.
“The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is dedicated to Mayfield’s success,” said Kyle Poat, P.E., Chief District Engineer for KYTC District 1. “This project will replace 2.5 miles of roadways and create safer, more accessible spaces for walking and biking.”
Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’Nan emphasized the importance of public input in shaping the project.
"We're excited to partner with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to rebuild our streetscape in Downtown Mayfield in a way that supports the current and future needs of our community," O'Nan said. "We encourage the community to visit the website to learn more and provide comments about the project that will revitalize our downtown."
The preliminary design for the Rebuild Mayfield project is currently underway, and construction is estimated to begin in 2026. Additional public outreach is planned for Fall 2025.
Members of the public who were unable to attend the meeting can learn more and submit online comments at rebuildmayfield.com.
Displays from the public meeting are also available for review at the KYTC District 1 Office in Paducah. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., CDT. Comments may be submitted online, in person, by mail to Patsy Rawlins, P.E., District 1 Project Manager, KYTC District 1 Office, 5501 Kentucky Dam Rd., Paducah, Kentucky 42003, or by email at info@rebuildmayfield.com through May 19, 2025.
