Evening/Overnight Lane Closures on I-71 in Gallatin County Beginning Wednesday, April 16
Crews will be performing crack sealing
COVINGTON, Ky. (April 16, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of various evening/overnight single lane closures on Interstate 71 northbound and southbound in Gallatin County. These lane closures are necessary to allow a safe area for crews to perform crack sealing.
Crack sealing is the process of placing an adhesive sealant into cracks on the pavement surface, preventing the infiltration of moisture and non-compressible materials into the pavement. It is a cost-effective pavement preservation treatment that can slow pavement deterioration and extend pavement life by three to five years.
Crews will be working on I-71 northbound and southbound between two miles east of Sparta Pike (KY 35) (59 mile point) and the Boone/Gallatin County line (69.8 mile point), a distance of 10.8 miles.
Motorists should expect various single lane closures on both I-71 northbound and southbound between the working hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
A separate work zone for the I-71 widening project in Gallatin and Carroll counties is located southwest of this project area. Please, drive carefully through both work zones, and give yourself extra time to keep you and our crews safe.
Weather permitting, this crack sealing project is expected to be completed Wednesday, April 30.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can get Northern Kentucky road construction updates on the District 6 Roadshow.
