UPDATE: KY 815 in McLean County Blocked for the Safety of Motorists

Roadway reopened

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (April 16, 2025) Water had receded from KY 815 near Long Falls Creek in McLean County enough this morning to allow engineers to safely assess the condition of the roadway following several days of high winds.

Although strong wave-like currents had eroded the earthen banking along the western shoulder of the roadway, inspection found that it has not damaged the integrity of KY 815. Barricades have been removed and traffic is once again being allowed to use the roadway.

Original Release

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (April 15, 2025) KY 815 in McLean County is being blocked due to concerns over the stability of the shoulders following lengthy exposure to flood waters and high winds at Long Falls Creek (2.6-3.2 mp)

KY 815, which has served as a primary access route to the city of Calhoun during the ongoing flood, has remained opened while other state roads in the area have been closed due to flooding. During the last two days, however, strong winds have resulted in an almost ocean like current that has begun to erode the shoulder on the west side of the highway.

With KY 81 from Calhoun to Owensboro reopening earlier today, KYTC engineers made the tough call to block the roadway for the safety of motorists. Personnel will remain at the site to monitor road conditions until water recedes and the status of the shoulder can be properly evaluated.

Motorists seeking to reach Calhoun from Sebree will need to detour around the new closure by following KY 140 from KY 136 all the way to KY 81. Then take KY 81 into Calhoun. KY 136 remains blocked at KY 140.
