Driving Northern Kentucky Progress Just Got an Upgrade!
We’ve made some changes to our Driving Northern Kentucky Progress (DNKYP) website to make it easier to find updates on District 6 projects.
🔹 NEW: District 6 Landing Page You may recognize the Driving NKY Progress branding — well, we’ve brought it back with a fresh purpose! We’ve launched a new landing page that will serve as a central hub, linking to multiple project sites and other helpful resources. You’ll have easy access to information on projects such as the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project or the KY 536 Improvements Project(s). You’ll also find links to helpful resources like the KYTC District 6 homepage, Report-a-Hazard page where you can give us a heads up on potholes to take care of and the District 6 Roadshow for a quick rundown of all the projects happening in the district each week.

VARIOUS COUNTIES (BOONE, CAMPBELL, KENTON, GRANT AND GALLATIN):
Aprils round of street sweeping to clean and maintain highway shoulders along barrier walls, bridges and bicycle lanes is now complete.
VARIOUS COUNTIES (BOONE, CAMPBELL, CARROLL, GALLATIN, GRANT AND KENTON):
Starting Thursday, April 17, contractors will install “Wrong Way”, “Do Not Enter”, “One Way”, and “Stop” signs at interchanges and exit ramps in Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant and Kenton counties. The improvements aim to reduce wrong way driving incidents and enhance safety.
The signage installation follows a separate contract that was completed last year to install wrong way pavement striping at the same locations.
Current Location of Work:
-Grant County ramps/interchanges on I-75: KY 491 (Violet Road) Exit 166, KY 22 (Broadway Street) Exit 159, KY 1560 (Barnes Road) Exit 156, KY 36 (Stewartsville Road) Exit 154, KY 330 (Owenton Road) Exit 144. After work is completed in Grant County, crews will move to other counties throughout the district.
Work will be performed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Lane closures will be in place during work hours. At locations with three or more lanes, one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. At locations with two lanes, alternating one-way traffic will be maintained with a flagger on site to direct motorists. Traffic on exit ramps will be maintained at partial-width (10 ft. minimum) lanes.

BOONE COUNTY:

O’Hara Road (KY 3147) Entrance from Donaldson Highway + CVG Airplane Viewing Area – A temporary two-week closure is in place at the O’Hara Road entrance from Donaldson Highway (at the 0.6 mile point). The CVG Airplane Viewing Area on Donaldson Highway is also closed during this time.
The two-week closure is necessary to allow crews to perform cement stabilization work as part of the ongoing Donaldson Highway widening project. This work will improve pavement durability and ensure a more stable foundation for the final road design. Both the O’Hara Road entrance and the Airport Viewing Area are expected to reopen on Monday, May 5.
During the closure, motorists can access O’Hara Road via Turfway Road (KY 717). Message boards are in place to notify the public of the upcoming closure.
This work is weather permitting. We will provide updates if schedule changes occur due to inclement weather or other unforeseen delays.

U.S. 25 – 0.44 – 2.58 – A resurfacing project on U.S. 25 from Nicholson Avenue to Chambers Road (KY 2951) is in progress.
Sidewalk work in downtown Walton is now complete. Milling/paving operations will follow pending coordination with CSX Transportation who is performing railroad crossing repairs in the area. We will provide an update once milling/paving is scheduled.
The project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025.
- Burlington Pike (KY 18) – 6.54 – 10.42 mile point – A resurfacing project on Burlington Pike from west of East Bend Road (KY 338) to Woolper Road is nearing completion. Milling/paving operations have been completed. Crews will return to the project area for thermoplastic striping in various areas throughout the project. KYTC will provide an update on the Roadshow once this has been scheduled.
- Petersburg Road (KY 20) – 6.6 – 8.15 mile point – A resurfacing project on Petersburg Road from Market Street in Petersburg to Woolper Road has been completed.
- Petersburg Road (KY 20) – 19.71 – 20.71 mile point – A ditching operations maintenance project has been completed.
- East Bend Road (KY 338) – 16.49 – 17.13 mile point – A resurfacing project on East Bend Road from KY 536 to Burlington Pike has been completed.
- Big Bone Road (KY 1925) – 0.0 – 3.18 mile point – A resurfacing project on Big Bone Road from KY 338 to Rice Pike is nearing completion. Milling/paving operations have been completed. Crews will return to the project site in the coming weeks for additional shouldering work, and thermoplastic striping. KYTC will provide an update once crews return to the project site to complete the project.
- Weaver Road (KY 842) – 1.6 – 2.1 mile points – A turn lane and shoulder widening project on Weaver Road between Trellises Drive and Constance Road is now complete.
GALLATIN COUNTY:

Interstate 71 Northbound/Southbound – 59 – 69 mile points – A crack sealing project is underway. This work will require single lane closures between the evening/overnight hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will be working on I-71 northbound and southbound from two miles east of the Sparta Pike (KY 35) exit, to the Boone/Gallatin County line. Weather permitting, this project is expected to be completed Wednesday, April 30.
GRANT COUNTY:

Interstate 75 – 157.7 – 162.7 mile points – A resurfacing project on a five-mile stretch of I-75, from just south of Dry Ridge to just north of the Sherman Mt Zion Road (KY 1994) overpass, is scheduled to begin Monday, April 14.
Work will include pavement repairs and resurfacing, drainage and erosion control improvements, guardrail updates, bridge maintenance and cross slope corrections. The on/off ramps at Exit 159 to KY 22 in Dry Ridge will also be resurfaced as part of the project.
Signage has already been installed throughout the work zone. Beginning Monday, April 14, crews will begin addressing pavement base failures. A left lane and shoulder closure will be in place in both directions along the entire length of the project area during this phase, and will remain in effect until base failure repairs and bridge pier work are complete.
Motorists should expect double lane closures in the project area during the evening/overnight hours. Lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. KYTC will provide updates on the Roadshow and social media once those traffic impacts have been scheduled.
Traffic shifts will be necessary later in the project as paving operations progress. We will share those updates here and our social media accounts.
The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 15, 2025.
HARRISON COUNTY:

KY 1284 – 0.0 – 2.72 mile point – A resurfacing project on KY 1284 beginning at U.S. 27 extending east to Falmouth Sunrise Road is underway.
Contractors have completed base failure repairs on KY 1284. Crews will return to the project area for milling/paving operations after completing base failures on a nearby project. KYTC will provide an update once milling/paving operations have been scheduled.

KY 392 – 0.0 – 3.12 mile points – A resurfacing project on KY 392 beginning at U.S. 62 extending east to Diamond Lane is underway.
Beginning Friday, April 18, contractors will perform base failure repairs on KY 392. Crews will work between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Motorists should expect single lane closures throughout the project area. Flaggers will be in place on both sides of the work zone to guide motorists safely through the area.
After base failures have been completed, crews will return to the project area for milling/paving operations. This portion of the project has not yet been scheduled. We will provide an update once these operations have been scheduled.
KENTON COUNTY:
- Bracht-Piner Road (KY 14) – 0.0 – 3.26 mile points – Corrective work is currently underway following a resurfacing project on KY 14 between Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) and Madison Pike (KY 17). Crews will return to the project area on Monday, April 28 for pavement repairs. This work will require a single lane closure throughout the project area. Flaggers will be in place to guide traffic safely through the work zone. Rumble strips and striping will be installed at a later date. KYTC will provide updates on the Roadshow and social media once those operations have been scheduled.

Main Street/Pike Street (U.S. 25) -- 12.75 - 13.45 mile points -- A resurfacing project on Pike Street/Main Street will begin on Monday, April 28. Crews will resurface U.S. 25 from east of Simon Kenton Way to Fourth Street (KY 8). This section of road is located in Covington.
Weather permitting, beginning Monday, April 28, crews will perform base failure repairs in the project area. This work will take place between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Base failures are expected to take two nights of work. Milling and paving operations will follow. KYTC will provide an update once milling/paving work has been scheduled.
Motorists should expect single lane closures throughout the project area during working hours. In areas where there are two lanes, traffic will be maintained using flaggers. In areas where there are three lanes or more, one lane will be maintained in each direction.
This work is being performed during the evening/overnight hours to minimize travel disruptions in a high traffic volume area. No lane closures will be permitted on weekends from Friday at 5 p.m. to Sunday at 8 p.m.
The project is expected to be completed June 30, 2025.

Turkeyfoot Road (KY 1303) -- 5.82 - 6.24 mile points -- A ditching/drainage operations project will take place on Turkeyfoot Road beginning Monday, April 28. Crews will work from south of Yancey Drive to Dixie Highway (U.S. 25). Our KYTC Kenton County maintenance crew will work between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. This work will require a single lane closure throughout the project area. Flaggers will be used on both sides of the work zone to guide traffic safely through. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed Monday, May 12. KYTC will provide updates on social media and the District 6 Roadshow if additional days are needed.

Richardson Road (KY 1829) -- 2.72 - 3.98 mile points -- A slide repair project will begin on Thursday, April 24. This project will take place on Richardson Road between Sherbourne Drive and Old Richardson Road. On Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25, crews will perform mowing and brush clearing operations in the project area. This work will require the road to be blocked to through traffic between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The road will reopen daily by 7 p.m.
Beginning Monday, April 28, our Robertson County KYTC maintenance crew will perform the slide repair portion of the project. This work will require a 24/7 road closure at the 2.9 mile point (east of Sherbourne Drive). Crews will dig out a section of the road and perform a long-term slip repair. Additionally, breaks in the road in the project area will be patched. Tree trimming and ditching will be performed to improve drainage to ensure a longer lasting repair.
Local traffic will have limited access during this portion of the project. Residents living west of 3682 Richardson Road will have access to Richardson Road via Turkeyfoot Road (KY 1303). Residents living on or east of Webster Road will access Richardson Road via Madison Pike (KY 3035).
The slide repair portion of the project is expected to be completed Monday, May 12. Once the slide repair has been completed, the 24/7 road closure will be removed. Maintenance crews will then perform ditching and drainage improvements in the project area. This work will require a daily road closure between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. with the road reopening daily at 7 p.m. KYTC will advise on social media and the District 6 Roadshow when repairs have been completed.

Kyles Lane (KY 3187) – 0.4 – 0.72 mile points – A slide repair project is in progress on Kyles Lane. Crews have placed barricades between Farrell Drive and mile point 0.4 to block thru traffic. Only local traffic will be maintained:
-Homes at/north of 800 Kyles Lane will use Highland Pike for local access to Kyles Lane. -Homes at/south of 845 Kyles Lane will use Madison Pike for local access to Kyles Lane.
No thru traffic will be permitted on this portion of Kyles Lane. Motorists can detour using Madison Pike (KY 17) to Highland Pike (KY 1072).
Slide repairs, brush clearing and drainage repairs have been completed. The milling/paving portion of a separate resurfacing project on Old Kyles Lane is in progress. Once this work has been completed, crews will keep the road blocked until guardrail can be installed.
Weather permitting, this maintenance project is expected to be completed Monday, May 12. The completion date for this project has been extended due to inclement weather.
PENDLETON COUNTY:

U.S. 27 – 0.0 – 9.65 mile point – A resurfacing project on U.S. 27 from the Harrison County Line to just south of Kennedy Bridge Road is underway.
Trenching operations are nearing completion. Milling and paving has been tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, April 28. This work will require single lane closures throughout the project area between the working hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic around the work zone.
This project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025.
