Traffic Advisory: Asphalt Project Set to Begin on I-65 in Hardin/LaRue/Hart Counties

Preliminary work includes crack sealing with overnight lane closures

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (April 1, 2025)  Preparation is set for an asphalt repair and preservation project along an 18-mile stretch of Interstate 65 which extends from near Munfordville to near Sonora. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in various configurations beginning at 9pm Eastern (tonight, Tuesday, April 1st) on the southbound side near Mile Marker 83. Crews will continue south over the next few weeks performing crack seal work before turning around and moving north. Work will pause and lane closures removed by 5am Eastern each morning. Work is being conducted overnight to minimize disruption to traffic.

Motorists are urged to use additional caution and minimize distractions upon approaching the project area. Slow down and pay close attention to lane closure signs.

Northbound traffic will not be affected at this time. Additional announcements regarding traffic impacts will be posted as work schedules evolve. All work is subject to weather conditions. The project will be conducted in segments, not the entire stretch at once.

Preliminary work will be followed by an asphalt overlay of both sides of I-65 throughout the section. The project provides repair of broken pavement and an extension to the overall life cycle of the current surface.

The project contract specifies for work to be complete by September 30th.
