KYTC Installing Traffic Signals on Carter Road on Tuesday

Barron Drive and Middleground Drive to be blocked from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (March 24, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to block Barron Drive (KY 2707) and Middleground Drive West at their intersection with Carter Road (KY 2698) on Tuesday to begin the installation of new traffic signals.

The intersection is located at the 2.6 mile point of Carter Road.

KYTC personnel have been working with officials from Owensboro for over two years to design a project that would reduce crashes and improve motorist and pedestrian safety at this location. Due to the presence of overhead high voltage lines at the intersection, traditional steel traffic signal poles were not an option, forcing KYTC to opt for lower clearance mast arm poles which had to be special ordered.

After some delays in the procurement process, the signals are now ready to be installed. KYTC personnel plan to block both Barron Drive and Middleground Drive West from approximately 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday while these are put in place. There may also be periodic lane restrictions on Carter Road throughout the day when workers will be in close proximity to or over traffic.

Once the new signals are ready, they will be placed on flash for around two weeks to give motorists time to adjust to their presence before they are put into operation.

An average of 16,258 vehicles traverse this intersection each day.
