Crews are plowing interstates, state highways as snowfall increases
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 18, 2025) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) snowfighters are reporting heavy snow accumulations and areas of low visibility as they work to plow interstates and state highways across the district.
Driving conditions are rapidly becoming hazardous, and motorists are strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel.
The regional forecast indicates Western Kentucky counties could receive between 6 and 8 inches of snow.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for dangerously cold wind chills tonight and into Wednesday morning, with temperatures dropping to near or below zero across much of the region. Arctic cold temperatures will continue for several days. For more information go to: https://www.facebook.com/NWSPaducah.
Anyone who must travel should dress warmly, pack an emergency car kit, and ensure their vehicle is in good working order to minimize the risk of being stranded in extreme cold.
With harsh conditions ahead, even minor issues like a dead battery or flat tire could quickly become life-threatening.
If you do have to travel:
Slow down and keep a safe braking distance between vehicles.
Remember bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas freeze first.
