District 4 Winter Weather Travel 9am Update

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Jan. 10, 2025)  With snow spreading across the district, crews are out applying treatment. As accumulation occurs, they will continue working toward lower volume routes and come back to begin plowing slush on main routes. With snow being the only significant precip type in this storm, the current plan for counties in the district has crews plowing through the afternoon and evening, then working into Saturday morning to clear up remaining covered pavement. The timing of precipitation hitting in daylight hours combined with favorable pavement temperature forecasts should greatly assist crew operations. Temperatures into early Saturday morning will allow for freezing of wet surfaces and hinder bare pavement goals on lower volume routes.

For those who must travel today, please slow down. Driving slower can minimize a range of traffic risks. Pavement conditions can change quickly and reaction times become critical over short distances.

Give road crews room to work by standing back when following, slowing down when meeting and not passing.

Please do not call 911 for road conditions. Get traffic, snow and ice clearing activity reports and more for state maintained routes by visiting snowky.ky.gov. The site also has links to winter safety driving tips and other related valuable information.
