Traffic Switch on Bristow Road (KY 536) in Kenton County on Tuesday, Nov. 26
Part of ongoing widening and safety improvement project
COVINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 22, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming traffic switch on Bristow Road (KY 536) in Kenton County on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Crews will work between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to switch traffic between Hogrefe Road (mile point 1.49) and Banklick Road (mile point 2.12), a distance of 0.63 miles.
Traffic will be shifted to the south half of the bridge. One lane of traffic in each direction will be in place once the traffic switch has been completed. During the traffic switch, flaggers will be utilized to maintain one lane of alternating traffic.
Motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route to avoid potential delays.

Project Background
A widening and safety improvement project on KY 536 (Mt. Zion Road/Bristow Road) began in April 2024. This project focuses on a 1.54 mile stretch of KY 536 from west of the KY 1303 intersection to west of Williamswoods Drive.
The project includes the following improvements:
- Widening throughout the project area from two lanes of vehicular traffic, to four lanes to reduce congestion and improve traffic efficiency.
- A multi-use path will be built on both sides of KY 536 to improve bicycle/pedestrian connectivity.
- Widening an overpass bridge over a nearby railroad.
- Curb/gutter improvements along with storm sewer and drainage work
Additionally, two roundabouts will be built to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and increase safety. These roundabouts will be located at the following intersections:
- KY 536 and KY 1303
- KY 536 and Hogrefe Road
The $30,750,724.98 project was awarded to Eaton Asphalt Paving Company, of Walton, KY. The project is expected to be completed Spring 2027.
KY 536 Corridor Improvements
This project is part of a larger series of projects - aimed at improving the KY 536 corridor from U.S. 42 in Boone County, to KY 17 in Kenton County.
Three of those projects have been completed, two are ongoing, with one project remaining.
The KY 536 improvement project from U.S. 42 to Tiburon Drive was completed in October 2020. This project included widening from two lanes to four lanes to improve traffic congestion, adding a multi-use path and two roundabouts to improve safety.
The KY 536 (Mt. Zion Road) interchange improvement project was completed in October 2023. This project included a double crossover diamond (DCD) interchange at KY 536 and I-71/75, widening the road from three lanes to nine lanes of vehicular travel, as well as constructing a shared-use path on the north side of KY 536, and a sidewalk on the south side.
The KY 536 project from U.S. 25 (Dixie Highway) to KY 1303 (Bristow Road) was completed June 2024. The project included widening the road from two lanes to four lanes of vehicular traffic, a multi-use path built on both sides of KY 536, two roundabouts, traffic signal improvements and drainage improvements. It also includes widening the bridge deck to the west of Toebben Drive, and adding a right turn lane on Toebben Drive.
An additional project aimed at improving safety and connectivity on KY 1303 near KY 536 began in Summer 2024. The project will widen KY 1303 from south of Beechgrove Elementary School to the soon-to-be constructed roundabout at KY 1303 and KY 536. This project is expected to be completed Fall 2025.
A project on KY 536 from Williamswoods Drive to KY 17 will begin at a later date. KYTC will advise motorists ahead of this upcoming project.
