Public Meeting Scheduled on Thursday, Dec. 12 for U.S. 51 Improvement Project in Clinton

Project team to share renderings of new sidewalk and parking options

PADUCAH, Ky. (Nov. 25, 2024) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has scheduled a public meeting in Hickman County on Thursday, Dec. 12, to update the public on efforts to improve safety, access, and regional connectivity along U.S. 51 in the city of Clinton.

The project, which is still in the preliminary design phase, calls for improved pedestrian mobility throughout downtown Clinton, incorporating all downtown businesses and extending to the Farmers Market. Renderings, which will be on display at the meeting, will show options for sidewalks and multi-use paths, as well as options for improved on-street parking around the courthouse.

The public meeting will be held Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m., CST, at Hickman Co. High School, 301 James H. Phillips Drive in Clinton.  It will be conducted in an open house format, allowing attendees to view exhibits, talk to KYTC staff and project team members and ask questions about the project. There will be no formal presentation.

Funding is budgeted for this project in the Six-Year Highway Plan starting as early as July 2026.

Displays will be available for review at the meeting. Comment sheets will be available for those who want to provide feedback to help with the planning process.

Written statements will be accepted during the meeting. Comments also may be submitted by mail before January 30, 2025, to Austin Hart, Branch Manager Project Development, KYTC District 1 Office, 5501 Kentucky Dam Rd., Paducah, Kentucky 42003.

For anyone who is unable to attend the Dec. 12 meeting, displays will be available for review starting on Dec. 13 during office hours at the KYTC District 1 Office in Paducah, where comments may also be submitted. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., CST.

All written comments will become part of the official meeting record. Once compiled, the meeting record and supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying only after an Open Records Request has been received and approved. All Open Records Requests must be submitted to the Transportation Cabinet, Office of Legal Services, Transportation Office Building (200 Metro St, Frankfort, KY 40622), or via kytc.openrecords@ky.gov.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), if anyone has a disability and requires accommodations, please notify Austin Hart at 270-898-2431 no later than Dec. 5, 2024. Additionally, in compliance with Title VI, translation services are also offered.
