Signage honoring Mayor C.C. Hensley to be unveiled in Berea, Madison County
Mayor C.C. Hensley Memorial Highway
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 24, 2024) – By action of the Kentucky General Assembly, a section of the Berea Bypass/KY 956 has been designated the “Mayor C.C. Hensley Memorial Highway.” The route is between US 25 (milepoint 1.383) and Big Hill Road/KY 21 (milepoint 4.962).
Cyrus Clinton “C.C.” Hensley was the second Mayor of the City of Berea, serving from 1958 until 1981. He was born at Oneida in Clay County, and his family moved to Berea when he was eight years old. Mayor Hensley was a member of the first high school graduating class in Berea 1929-30. He served two years in the Air Force during WWII.

During his tenure, Mayor Hensley recruited industry, started a garbage service, built a new city hall, sewer plant and started the housing authority. There were many changes at city hall while he was mayor. The biggest change was hiring a City Administrator in 1979 to manage the daily operation of City government.
