Various Single Lane Closures on Richwood Road (KY 338) in Boone County Beginning Thursday, Sept. 19
Lane closures part of ongoing corrective work for Richwood Road Interchange Project
COVINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 19, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of various single lane closures on Richwood Road (KY 338) in Boone County beginning Thursday, Sept. 19. These single lane closures are part of the ongoing corrective work for the Richwood Road Interchange Project.
Crews will be working on Richwood Road from the roundabout at Triple Crown Blvd./Grand National Blvd. (mile marker 1) to Shorland Drive (mile point 0.0), a distance of one mile. The work includes sawcutting various concrete slabs, removing the slabs and replacing them by pouring new concrete slabs to improve the driving surface for road users.
Motorists should expect single lane closures on Richwood Road eastbound and westbound. Crews will be working between the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, the various lane closures in the work zone will be in place 24/7 to allow the concrete to cure.
Motorists should expect delays during peak travel periods, and are encouraged to find alternate routes.
Weather permitting, this corrective work is scheduled to be completed Friday, Sept. 27.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can get Northern Kentucky road construction updates on the District 6 Roadshow. Project Background: The Richwood Road interchange improvement project was completed in October 2023. The project included replacing a standard interchange at Richwood Road and Interstates 71/75 with a double crossover diamond (DCD) interchange. This innovative solution has been proven to result in significant reductions to both crashes and delays by eliminating left turns made against oncoming traffic.
The project also replaced the intersection at Richwood Road and Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) with a newer and safer traffic pattern, known as a single point urban interchange (SPUI). This innovative engineering solution, along with an overpass railroad bridge, eliminated two at-grade railroad crossings.
Additionally, a roundabout was constructed at the intersection of Richwood Road and Triple Crown Blvd.
The project focused on mobility for all road users by adding a multi-use path and sidewalks throughout the entirety of the project.
More information about the project can be found here.
