Overnight Traffic Impacts on I-75 Southbound in Kenton County

Traffic down to a single lane during overnight hours in project area

COVINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 21, 2024) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of overnight lane closures on Interstate 75 southbound in Kenton County scheduled for Tonight, Aug. 21.

The lane closures are associated with the ongoing resurfacing project on I-75 from mile point 164 (one mile south of the Crittenden exit) to mile point 169.4 (Kenton/Boone County line), a distance of 5.4 miles.

On Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 8 p.m., crews will take I-75 southbound down to a single lane through the Kenton County portion of the project limits (169.4 – 166.3 mile point) to perform striping operations on the outside shoulder of the interstate. This double lane closure will be in place through Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 a.m.

Once striping work is complete, a single right lane closure will be in be in place. Contractors will complete shoulder paving work on Thursday, Aug. 22, during overnight hours behind this single lane closure. After this work is complete, on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7 a.m., the single right lane closure will remain until additional shoulder work is completed in the coming weeks.

Motorists should expect delays during these overnight hours. Seek an alternate route and watch for trucks entering and leaving the work area.

Project Background

This resurfacing project started in Spring 2023 with the contractor working on the northbound lanes of I-75. Crews are currently working on the southbound portion of the project. The project includes pavement repairs and resurfacing, drainage repairs, guardrail work, cross slope correction and erosion repairs.

The project is expected to be completed by November 15, 2024.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
