Changes made to traffic management plan for KY 15 project in Breathitt County
Three lanes to be maintained through the work zone
JACKSON, Ky. – A change has been made to the traffic management plan for the KY 15 widening project scheduled to get underway next week in the city limits of Jackson in Breathitt County.
Engineers now plan to maintain three lanes of traffic -- two through lanes and a center turn lane -- through the project, with the lanes being shifted to the downtown Jackson side of the highway. The traffic shift is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Lakeside Drive will be closed at the KY 15 intersection, and all Lakeside traffic will need to use Jett Drive and the temporary detour route that was last used during the 2014 Lakeside rockfall mitigation project.
Previously, plans called for the northbound lane of KY 15 to be closed between Indian Hollow Road (milepoint 17.253) and Lakeside Drive (milepoint 17.7) with northbound traffic shifted into the center turn lane.
The revised plan will allow for a turn lane to be maintained for northbound KY 15 traffic turning left onto Washington Avenue (KY 1812) and to the businesses along the route.
The travel lanes will be narrowed to a 10-foot width, so drivers should use caution in the area, especially as barrier walls are moved into place on Aug. 20.
Updates on the project will be posted as necessary to KYTC District 10’s Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages using the hashtag #KY15Project.
More than 13,000 vehicles use this section of KY 15 each day.
