Paving Operations for Preventative Maintenance Project on Two Routes in Bracken County will begin Monday, Aug. 19

Bladeston Drive (KY 1159) and Courts Hill Road (KY 1289) will receive cape seal treatment to extend pavement life

COVINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 15, 2024) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office announces daytime single lane closures on Bladeston Drive (KY 1159) and Courts Hill Road (KY 1289) in Bracken County, as part of a preventative maintenance project.

Locations of work:

  • Bladeston Drive (KY 1159) beginning at Perkins Ridge Road (KY 1011) (3.39 mile point) extending north to AA Highway (KY 9) (4.35 mile points), a distance of 0.95 miles.
  • Courts Hill Road (KY 1289) beginning at Perkins Ridge Road (KY 1011) (0.0 mile point) extending north to Western Hills Road (KY 1109) (1.26 mile point), a distance of 1.26 miles.

The cape seal project will begin with a chip interlayer followed by a thin lift of asphalt surface a couple days after the chip interlayer is applied. All work will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. During working hours, a single lane closure will be in place with flaggers directing traffic at both ends of the work zone.

After a cape seal treatment, roadways will contain some loose aggregate and produce a slight increase in driving noise for a short period until a smooth riding surface is applied. Preventative maintenance treatments slow pavement deterioration, correct minor surface distresses, lower maintenance and construction costs and provide motorists with increased safety and a smoother ride.

Expect minor delays while work is ongoing. Motorists should drive carefully though the project area and watch for trucks entering/leaving the work zone during working hours.

The preventative maintenance project is being done by Mago Construction Company LLC under a $218,102 Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract. The project is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2024.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
