Overnight I-71/75 Northbound Exit Ramp Closure in Kenton County on Tuesday, Aug. 6

Fifth Street (KY 8) ramp from I-71/75 northbound will be closed 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for ongoing safety improvement project

COVINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 6, 2024) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announces an overnight exit ramp closure in Kenton County on Tuesday, Aug. 6, as part of an ongoing safety improvement project.

The I-71/75 northbound exit off-ramp to Fifth Street (KY 8) (Exit 192) in Covington will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be stabilizing soil and repairing pavement on the ramp. This process includes drilling down from the pavement to the soil, and then injecting polymer to raise sunken slabs in various locations. The end result is a smoother and safer ride for motorists.

This location is the second of three highway locations that is part of the ongoing safety improvement project.

Project 1: I-71/75 northbound south of Buttermilk Pike (KY 371): crews will return to this location at a later date. KYTC will announce on social media when this work will be rescheduled.

Project 3: I-71/75 southbound between Kyles Lane (KY 1072) and Dixie Highway (U.S. 25): this work was completed Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6 a.m.

This work is being performed overnight to minimize traffic impacts to the traveling public.

Weather permitting, crews anticipate the work on Covington's Fifth Street exit ramp to be completed Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 6 a.m. If additional nights are needed for this work, KYTC will advise motorists on KYTC District 6 Social media and on the District 6 Roadshow.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can get Northern Kentucky road construction updates on the District 6 Roadshow. Follow KYTC District 6 on Facebook or Twitter.
