UPDATE:  Crash Blocking I-24 Westbound at 32mm in Livingston County

Estimated duration is now 9 hours
Eastbound traffic also slowed in this area

PADUCAH, Ky. (July 29, 2024)  Interstate 24 westbound continues to be blocked by a crash at the 32mm in Livingston County.  This incident and resulting detour have also created a slowdown for eastbound traffic.

This multi-veicle crash is immediately east of the KY 453 Grand Rivers Exit 31 interchange.  A Kentucky State Police crash reconstruction investigator is on site.

Estimated duration is now 9 hours or approximately 1;30 a.m.

Westbound I-24 traffic is being detoured off at the U.S. 62 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 interchange to follow U.S. 62 West to Exit 27 at Calvert City.  To assist emergency response personnel motorists should remain on U.S. 62 to the Exit 27 interchange.

There is also some impact on eastbound traffic in this area due to a traffic backup at the eastbound Exit 40 ramp.  Heavy cross traffic due to the detour is making it difficult to make turns at the end of the ramp.

Eastbound motorists should use extra caution along I-24 from Exit 37 to Exit 40.  Westbound motorists should use appropriate caution along the detour.

SPECIAL REQUEST
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is asking westbound motorists to consider a detour at the U.S. 68 Cadiz Exit 65 interchange to take U.S. 68 WEST through Aurora to Draffenville, then take I-69 North to return to I-24.  This will help to reduce the traffic on the main detour.

This section of I-24 also carries I-69 traffic.

Updates as appropriate.
