Traffic Advisory: Construction Changes on Athens Boonesboro Road Next Week
Series of traffic impacts start Monday at Doe Run Trail
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 5, 2024) – Continued construction of intersection improvements on Athens Boonesboro Road (KY 418) near I-75 will require a series of traffic changes along the four-lane Fayette County highway next week.
Motorists should watch for the following traffic impacts where Doe Run Trail and the entrance to a new soccer complex intersects Athens Boonesboro Road just west (Lexington side) of the interstate:
- At 8 a.m. Monday, July 8, all four left-turn movements will be temporarily closed at the Doe Run Trail intersection (milepoint 2.3-2.4). All four right-turn movements will remain open.
- On Thursday, July 11, at 3 p.m., the two left-hand turn lanes from Athens Boonesboro Road onto Doe Run will reopen. The two left-turn movements from Doe Run onto Athens Boonesboro Road will be permanently closed.
The work involves a project to install new restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) intersections along Athens Boonesboro Road.
An RCUT is a highway intersection design consisting of one main intersection and two median intersections that route crossing traffic using right turns and U-turns to enhance traffic flow and reduce the risk of right-angle crashes.
