US 60 Bridge at Henderson-Union Line to be Closed Starting Monday as Repairs Begin
Detour created for heavy industrial traffic utilizing KY 56
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (June 7, 2024) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to block the US 60 bridge at the Henderson-Union County line beginning Monday, June 10 to begin required maintenance work that will allow the current 10-ton weight restriction on the bridge to be lifted.
The project is expected to be completed and the normal weight limits restored within a week of the start date, but scheduled work can be delayed in the event of inclement weather.
Following an inspection in May, engineers determined that a reduced weight limit on the bridge was a necessary safety step until deterioration on one of the support piers could be repaired. Engineers are now prepared to immediately begin repairs to the structure, which was built in 1943.
In order to reduce delays and expedite repairs so the bridge can be fully reopened as quickly as possible, KYTC will block the bridge in both directions for the duration of the project.
To accommodate heavy industrial traffic along the US 60 corridor, a detour will be put in place along state highways rated to handle the load.
Eastbound traffic coming from Union County and further west will be rerouted at the US 60 intersection with the US 60 bypass just east of Morganfield. These vehicles will take KY 56 east to US 41A, then north to KY 425, which will lead back to US 60 in Henderson.
Westbound traffic will following the same route with a detour beginning at the US 60 intersection with KY 425 and KY 136 in Henderson. Traffic will follow KY 425 to US 41A, then south to KY 56. KY 56 will then link to the US 60 bypass, which will return them to US 60 in Morganfield.
