Traffic Advisory: Recent Inspection Closes Bridge in Letcher County
KY 588 Blackey Bridge is closed following Inspection
Pikeville, KY (June 3, 2024) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises the public of an immediate closure of Blackey Bridge along KY 588 in Letcher County. The bridge is located in the Blackey community at mile point 0.0 at the junction of KY 7.
A recent inspection revealed structural issues that require immediate attention, and for this reason, KYTC has made the decision to close the bridge at this time. Our top priority is the safety of the driving public. This closure is essential to prevent potential risks associated with the bridge's current condition.
Barricades have been placed at each end of the bridge. All motorists must use an alternate route. Motorists can detour using KY 160 to KY 15 or KY 2036 to KY 7 towards Perry County.
