Corrected news release: Signal improvements for Fayette County

Intersection of Bryan Station Road/KY 1970 and Briar Hill Road/KY 57

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 25, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a signal change for Fayette County. The signal improvements provide additional safety for the intersection of Bryan Station Road/KY 1970 and Briar Hill Road/KY 57 in Lexington.

The new system is an Intersection Conflict Warning System (ICWS). It provides detection and warning for both the mainline (Brian Station Road/KY 1970) and side street (Briar Hill/KY 57) approaches. Briar Hill/KY 57 is the only approach with a stop condition that includes this new device.

Thursday, April 25currently

Intersection of Bryan Station Road/KY 1970 and Briar Hill Road/KY 57 (milepoint 3.05)

Warning motorists on the Mainline of vehicles on the side street:

  • when side street (Briar Hill Road/KY 57) detectors place a call - the warning signs on the mainline should flash for as long as the vehicle is on the detector, and for an additional 5 seconds for clearance once the vehicle leaves the detector
  • Brian Station Road/KY 1970 will be free flowing in both directions

Warning motorists on the Side Street of vehicles on the mainline:

  • when one of the mainline detectors place a call - the warning signs on the side street should flash for a period of 15 seconds
  • Briar Hill Road/KY 57 is the only approach that will have a stop condition --- a “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” yellow warning plaque has been added to the stop sign

All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.

District 7 includes Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford Counties
