High Friction Treatment to be applied to two I-69 ramps

Work scheduled to begin April 1, 2024

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (March 25, 2024) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will be applying a high friction treatment to a pair of I-69 ramps in Hopkins County beginning the week of April 1, 2024, resulting in temporary lane restrictions.

High friction surface treatments (HFST) are pavement treatments designed to increase friction in potentially high crash areas, resulting in motorists being able to maintain better control in both wet and dry driving conditions.

A research report published by the Federal Highway Administration suggests that HFST reduce wet crashes by as much as 83 percent and total crashes by 57 percent.

Beginning the week of April 1, 2024, Truesdell Corporation will be applying HFST to the northbound exit ramp and southbound on ramps at Exit 111 of Interstate 69. This project is part of the Highway Safety Improvement Program.
