KYTC District 1 Roadshow: Traffic Impact Report for Week of Feb 11-17
PADUCAH, KY (Feb. 9, 2024) -- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates ongoing work zone construction and long-term maintenance activities at the following locations will impact traffic during the week of Feb 11-17. More detailed information on these work zones with maps can be found on our Facebook page listed below.
I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at 29mm (NEW) Be alert for a work zone traffic shift for eastbound traffic on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at the 29mm. Watch for rolling roadblocks. Delays are likely. The traffic shift is expected to take two days to complete. Starting about Wednesday, there will be two 11 Ft. lanes for eastbound travel. Westbound traffic will continue to be restricted to one lane. There is an 8 ft.-6 in. max load width and 13.5 ft. max height restriction, a 55 MPH speed limit, enhanced enforcement, double fines, and a concrete barrier wall to allow bridge rehab work. There is interactive monitoring to alert motorists to traffic backups - Watch message boards on approach. Local commuters should consider a self-detour via U.S. 62 and KY 453 during peak travel times. Be alert for frequent updates on the traffic configuration through March. Target for project completion is Dec 1, 2024.
I-69 Northbound at 70mm in Lyon County A brush clearing is working along I-69 Northbound in Lyon County. While much of the work is along the right-of-way without lane restrictions, this daytime work zone will extend about 1/2 mile and continue moving northward as work progresses. The crew plans to clear brush around the U.S. 62 Princeton-Eddyville Exit 71 Interchange before continuing northward to the Lyon-Caldwell County Line at the 76.3mm. The crew will then move to the southbound lanes and work back to the I-69/I-24 Exit 68 Interchange. Watch for work zone location updates.
U.S. 45 Traffic Signal Activations in Mayfield (NEW) Four additional traffic signals in downtown Mayfield are expected to be placed in red flashing mode, on Monday, Feb. 12. The intersections are along KY 80/Broadway, KY 58/Broadway, and KY 121/South 6th Street near the court square in the downtown area. The signals will remain in red flash mode for about 30 days before going into full service. The intersections will continue to function as All-Way Stops until the signals are fully activated. Three other signals in this are are now in full green-yellow-red operation.
KY 58 Extended Closure in Hickman County The KY 58 is closed at the 4.9mm in Hickman County to allow repairs to the Obion Creek Bridge. This closure is about halfway between Clinton and Columbus. Repairs to the pony truss bridge are expected to take about 2 more weeks to complete. There is no marked detour. Passenger vehicles may self-detour via KY 1300, KY 123 and KY 1826. Trucks should seek an alternate route based on weight classification. Target completion date is Feb 27.
I-24 Downtown Business Loop/South 3rd St in Paducah (NEW) Starting Tuesday, February 13, watch for a work zone in the 100 Block of South 3rd Street in downtown Paducah to allow a contractor to reconstruct an existing parking lot entrance. This is along the northbound one-way section between U.S. 45/Kentucky Ave and Broadway. All traffic will move to the right-hand or driving lane at this site. This work is expected to take about 4 days to complete, weather permitting.
Total Solar Eclipse Crosses 8 KY Counties April 8 (NEW) Is the 2024 Solar Eclipse on your bucket list? Make your plan now! The total eclipse will clip parts of Fulton, Hickman and Carlisle counties before rolling across Ballard, McCracken, Livingston, Crittenden, Union and Henderson counties along the Ohio River on April 8. It will also clip small portions of Graves, Webster and Daviess counties. Be prepared for lots of visitors and heavy traffic across Kentucky. U.S. 45 in Lone Oak Area of McCracken County (Postponed) A work zone along U.S. 45/Lone Oak Road at mile point 7.141 at the new intersection with KY 1286/North Friendship Road and Lakeview Drive has been taken down and will be rescheduled at a later date. The effort to replace the existing traffic signal is delayed due to a supply line issue. Watch for work to resume in a few weeks.
KY 121 Reopened in NW Graves County KY 121 is open in NW Graves County at the 18.4mm where deck repairs were completed on the CNRR Overpass. KYTC District 1 is still seeking information on a driver who steered around numerous Road Closed signs and drove through freshly poured concrete. The vehicle left two-inch deep ruts in fresh concrete used to repair the deck. Anyone with information on the vehicle that caused the damage is asked to contact KYTC District 1 at 270-898-2431, or contact the Graves County Sheriff or Kentucky State Police.
KY 3061 Closed at 3.6mm in Hickman County (Ongoing) KY 3061 is Closed at 3.6mm in Hickman County due to damage at the Brush Creek Branch Culvert between Whitlock Road and Brush Creek Road. This is just over a mile north of the KY 58 intersection. New culvert pipes have been ordered. Work is expected to start when they are delivered to the site. Closure duration is unknown at this time. There is no marked detour.
Purchase Parkway Work Zone from 0 to 21mm (Ongoing) The Purchase Pkwy/U.S. 51 Fulton Exit 1 interchange is open with traffic running on base asphalt. Additional work is planned at Exit 1 and Exit 2 when work ramps back up in March. Lane restrictions remain up along the parkway at a half-dozen locations. There is a 55 mph speed limit and enhanced police presence where construction crews are present. The target completion date for all work on the project to extend I-69 southward along the parkway is Dec 15, 2024.
U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street Closure in Murray (UPDATED) U.S. 641-Business/North 4th Street in Murray is closed north of KY 94/East Main Street for curb, gutter, and concrete pavement work. The contractor is moving northward along U.S. 641-Business about a block at a time until work is completed between Main Street and Chestnut. Access will be maintained for businesses. Motorists may self-detour via side streets. Due to weather delays, the target completion is extended to April 1, 2024.
KY 408 Extended Closure East of Benton in Marshall County (Ongoing) KY 408/Egners Ferry Road is closed immediately east of Benton. The project between KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road and KY 1897/Olive-Hamlet Road includes construction of 4 bridges over Johns River and Clarks River. A marked detour via U.S. 68 and KY 1462/Benton-Birmingham Road adds 2.2 miles or about 4 minutes of travel time. The target completion date is August 15, 2025.
KY 780 in Hickman County Closed at Bayou de Chien Bridge KY 780 is closed at mile point 3.818 due to substructure deterioration on the Bayou de Chien Bridge between U.S 51 and Martin Road. This is on the leg of KY 780 West of U.S. 51. The bridge will remain closed until engineers can develop a repair plan. Motorists may self-detour via the north end of KY 780 to U.S. 51/South Washington Street at the edge of Clinton.
KY 945 Closed at Gilbert Creek Culvert in Graves County KY 945 remains closed at the 1.14mm in Graves County at the Gilbert Creek Culvert due to erosion damage from flash flooding in July. KYTC engineers are working on plans to replace the damaged concrete culvert with a new bridge. There is no start date at this time.
U.S. 60/U.S. 62 Mississippi River Bridge Between IL & MO CLOSED The U.S. 60/U.S. 62 Mississippi River Bridge that connects Illinois and Missouri near Cairo is closed until Oct. 2024, for a maintenance and repair project. For vehicles crossing the U.S. 51 Ohio River "Cairo" Bridge from Kentucky into Illinois traveling into Missouri, this creates about a 4 mile (5 min.) detour via U.S. 51 through Cairo to take I-57 South to cross the I-57 Mississippi River Bridge into Missouri.
