Preliminary work beginning next week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 4, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announces the awarding of a contract for an interchange improvement project of Interstate 65 and KY 480 (Cedar Grove Road) in Bullitt County. The project will improve access to the existing and committed businesses in Cedar Grove Business Park and the surrounding area.
The scope of the project includes the reconstruction of the existing interchange to a Double Crossover Diamond (DCD). A DCD is an interchange with two signalized intersections, where traffic between the intersections crosses over to the left side of the roadway. As vehicles exit the interchange, they return to the right side of the road. This design allows vehicles to turn left onto and off of freeway ramps without stopping or crossing opposing lanes of traffic.
The intersection improvement project will enhance the signalized intersections on KY 480 on each side of I-65 and will provide better coordination with other traffic signals within the KY 480 corridor.
Preliminary work is set to begin the week of Monday, January 8. Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns, lane shifts, and closures as construction progresses. Earlier this week, signs notifying drivers of the upcoming work were placed in the area. Drivers should obey restrictions and drive cautiously through the construction zone.
Cleary Construction Inc. of Tompkinsville, KY, was awarded the $18.740 million contract. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2025.
