Lane Closure on U.S. 42 Bridge in Boone County for Corrective Work Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 14

UPDATE: Schedule includes overnight, weekend work

UPDATE (Nov. 13, 2023): The contractor has updated the schedule for the corrective work being performed on the U.S. 42 bridge (13.8 - 14.2 mile point). Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Nov. 14. Crews will work nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., the following morning. This schedule will be in place through Friday, Nov. 17. This overnight work will require the left two lanes of U.S. 42 westbound to be closed.

Beginning Friday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m., through Monday, Nov. 20, at 6 a.m., the left two lanes of U.S. 42 westbound will be closed. Motorists should expect significant delays near the interchange over the weekend, and are encouraged to find alternate routes.

This corrective work will entail making repairs to pavement slabs adjacent to the bridge.

COVINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 9, 2023) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office announces lane closures for corrective work on the U.S. 42 bridge (13.8 – 14.2 mile point) that carries traffic over I-71/75 in Boone County beginning Sunday, Nov. 12.

The closures are needed to allow crews to work on corrective work to the bridge deck following a recent widening project that provided additional space for traffic moving westbound on U.S. 42 and turning left onto I-71/75 southbound. The bridge was also widened to the north to provide a sidewalk from Dream Street to Heights Blvd.

Starting on Sunday, Nov. 12, U.S. 42 westbound will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The closures will be in place nightly until Thursday, Nov. 16. Steel plates will be in place in the project area during daytime hours.

Weather permitting, beginning on Friday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m., westbound traffic on U.S. 42 will be reduced to a single lane for the duration of the weekend. The closure will be removed at 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20.

Motorists should drive carefully through the work zone, seek an alternate route to avoid potential delays, and watch for steel plates in the project area.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
