Invitation - Signage honoring Cecil "Dude" Cochran to be unveiled in Madison County

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 29, 2023)  By Action of the Kentucky General Assembly, a section along US 25 in Madison County will be designated the “Cecil “Dude” Cochran Memorial Highway.”

Cecil “Dude” Cochran was a Madison County native. He served as Deputy Sheriff from 1978 until 1982. In 1982 he was elected Sheriff of Madison County. This was a position he held until 2007. He was the first sheriff elected who could succeed himself, making him the longest serving sheriff in Madison County.

Sheriff Cochran was a member of The Kentucky Sheriff’s Association, and always supported the Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch at Gilbertsville, Kentucky.

He and his wife, Betsy, owned and operated the Madison Furniture Company for 28 years. In addition, he operated a lime hauling business.
