Contract Awarded for I-64 Asphalt Rehabilitation
in Jefferson County
Project includes improvements to exit ramps
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 1, 2023) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announces the awarding of a contract for an asphalt rehabilitation and improvement project of Interstate 64 East and West in Jefferson County. This project will extend the life of the interstate and will improve driver comfort on the roadway. Preliminary work has begun on select ramps and sections of I-64. Closure details are available here.
The project will occur between Mellwood Avenue (mile point 6.5) to just past the Breckenridge Lane overpass (mile point 11.7). This project includes guardrail repair and installation, shoulder slope stabilization work, and pavement repairs at exit ramps along the project route. It includes pavement removal and resurfacing within the Cochran Tunnels.
Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns, lane shifts, and closures as construction progresses. Earlier this week, signs notifying drivers of the upcoming work were placed in the area. Motorists should obey restrictions and drive cautiously through the construction zone. It is advised to seek an alternate route if possible.
Louisville Paving Company Inc. of Louisville, KY, was awarded the $13.2 million contract. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2023.
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
