UPDATE: U.S. 60 Blocked West of Kevil in Ballard County near 15mm by Overturned Oversized Load

Estimated duration is now 1.5 hrs or approx 7 a.m., CST

PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 21, 2023)  Ballard County Emergency Management reports U.S. 60 continues to be blocked at the West edge of Kevil in Ballard County where a large piece of over-dimensional construction/mining equipment slid off a truck.

This blockage of U.S. 60 is at the intersection with Clarkline Road near the 15-mile marker in Ballard County.  This is between LaCenter and Kevil.

The oversized load weighs 268,000 pounds.  Overnight, the recovery crew has used several large rotator tow trucks to stabilize the load.

Due to the weight of the piece of equipment, a crane was required to help lift it and place it on cribbing in the roadway where it could be positioned so the truck can back under it to reload.   That effort is ongoing this morning.

Estimated duration of this blockage is 1.5 hours or approximately 7 a.m., CST.

KYTC personnel are diverting traffic between Wickliffe and Paducah to a detour via KY 286 and U.S. 62.  Trucks should use extra caution along the detour.

An updated photo is below.  Additional photos of the oversized load. and a map indicating the location of the blockage on U.S. 60 immediately west of Kevil are posted at www.facebook.com/kytcdistrict1.
