Construction Ready To Begin On

Elizabethtown Roundabouts Project

Work will be complete in fall 2024

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 6, 2023)  Ten roundabout locations will be built as part of a safety and improvement project set to begin this month in Elizabethtown. The $4.998 Million contract is awarded to Louisville Paving Company, Inc. and will be complete in fall of 2024. While the project is being administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, some locations are a collaborative effort with the City of Elizabethtown.

The first location for construction is the intersection of KY 1136 and US 31W Bypass. It is the largest roundabout in the group. Work is scheduled to begin February 14th and will be complete by August 1st. Motorists should pay close attention to work zone signage when approaching the intersection. Delays will be possible, especially at peak traffic hours. There will be changing traffic patterns used throughout different phases of the construction process. This location will not be closed during construction.

Locations to follow include KY 251 at Pear Orchard Road, Dolphin Drive at Josale Drive, Commerce Drive at Executive Drive, Woodland Drive at Layman Lane, KY 251 at Panther Lane, KY 251 at Beech Street, West Poplar Street at Sycamore Street, KY 251 at West Poplar Street and West Poplar Street at North Mantle Avenue. Contract crews are strategically scheduling these locations, with particular consideration for school calendars. After construction ramps up, the contractor expects project work flow to involve two or three locations at once. Closures of varying lengths will take place at these locations.

Closures and other impacts to traffic will be announced in advance with construction updates as the overall schedule progresses. Follow @kytcdistrict4 on Facebook and Twitter for additional project updates.
