Overnight Closures Coming to Bardstown Road
in Jefferson County
Road is being paved in coordination with a safety improvement project
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 4, 2022) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a milling and asphalt resurfacing project for Bardstown Road (U.S. 31E) that will require overnight lane and road closures, beginning next week in the area of the Highlands neighborhood.
There will be a complete closure of Bardstown Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting the night of Sunday, Oct. 9, and ending on the morning of Friday, Oct. 14, between Eastern Parkway (U.S. 60A) and Grinstead Drive (KY 2860). Crews anticipate two nights of milling followed by paving the remainder of the nights. The posted detour will utilize Eastern Parkway, Baxter Avenue (KY 1703) and Grinstead Drive.
In addition, there will be lane closures on Bardstown Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting the night of Sunday, Oct. 16, and ending on the morning of Friday, Oct. 21, from Bonnycastle Avenue to Eastern Parkway and Grinstead Drive to Broadway. Crews will begin work on the Bonnycastle Avenue to Eastern Parkway section before switching to the Grinstead Drive to Broadway section later that week. Motorists will be directed through these work zones via flagging operations.
The contractor on the project will place digital message signs along the corridor in advance of the scheduled closures. All the closures will be limited to non-peak overnight hours, and there will be no closures on Friday and Saturday nights. Motorists take note: On-street parking will be restricted by this work. No parking signs will be posted within the project limits.
The milling and asphalt resurfacing project is being done in coordination with an ongoing safety improvement project announced in August 2021. That project includes reconfiguring traffic lanes, enhancing pedestrian crossings and designating turn lanes at signalized intersections on Bardstown Road.
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
