We invite you to join us in building a better South through the arts.

The Kentucky Crafted Market is coming this week, and we hope you’ll join us March 12-13 at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena for this gathering of some of the best visual and craft artists in Kentucky. Admission this year is free, and we’ll also be collecting cash donations at the arena for the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund. If you’ve been to The Market before, bring a friend who’s never experienced it. We’ll see you there!

And we hope you will join us next week, March 16-18 for Arts Day(s) in Kentucky! This three-day celebration of Kentucky arts will feature many virtual sessions you can join to listen to and be a part of the conversation. Check out the agenda and register today for these FREE sessions!

The Kentucky Arts Council has rolled out the Performing Artists Directory-Touring Grant. This grant is open to small and medium-sized nonprofit arts organizations as well as local community and government organizations, like parks, nursing homes, community centers, prisons and substance abuse recovery centers. Those organizations can apply for up to $500 to cover part of the artist fees to present individuals or groups from the arts council’s Performing Artists Directory. The application deadline is March 31.

We’d like to congratulate Lupita Diaz from Beechwood High School for winning the Poetry Out Loud State Championship last week. Lupita will advance to the national semifinals, held virtually on May 1. As state champion, Lupita was awarded $200 and her school received a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry books. You can watch the national semifinals and cheer for Lupita by visiting the Poetry Out Loud website.

Next month we will celebrate Kentucky Writers’ Day, but all month long, we’ll bring you original pieces by Kentucky writers through a series of videos we will post on our Facebook page each day of April. We hope you’ll enjoy hearing samples of literary work by writers here in Kentucky, and by writers who no longer live here, but have strong ties to the commonwealth.

We hope to see you this week at The Kentucky Crafted Market and again next week for Arts Day(s) in Kentucky!
