Mayor seeks federal disaster assistance for flooding; Seven free drop-off sites set for flood debris

flooding sign

Mayor Greg Fischer is continuing the city’s action to seek federal disaster assistance in the wake of the recent record flooding by signing an order, declaring a local state of emergency. Fischer directed the city’s Emergency Management Agency to lead the process of gathering all damage and cost estimates citywide to be able to quickly apply for federal aid related to both individual and public losses stemming from the record rainfall last week. Fischer also announced that seven sites, spread throughout the community, will soon be available for citizens to drop off flood debris at no charge. The free service is available for residents of Louisville only and it does not include commercial haulers.

*No construction debris or yard waste will be accepted. To qualify for the free drop-off residents must present the attendant with two forms of identification verifying Louisville residency. If a citizen hires an individual or business to remove debris, the citizen must accompany the hauler to the drop-off center or provide the hauler with the same two forms of identification to present at the facility.

Drop-off sites are as follows:

Sites below will operate Thursday – Saturday 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. through April 25th

-Bethany Lane

10500 Lower River Road at Bethany Lane

-Newburg Community Center

4810 Exeter Ave 40218

-Outer Loop Recycling Center

7201 Outer Loop 40228

-Dixie Recycling Center

7219 Dixie Hwy 40258

-Charlie Vettiner Park

5550 Charlie Vettiner Park Rd 40299

-Hubbards Ln. Recycling Center

Residents who cannot drop off debris may request pickup service. Pickup requests must be sent by email no later than 5 p.m. on April 13 to swmd@louisvilleky.gov.

See a pothole? Report it to 311

pot hole

Public Works crews will systematically go through the city’s streets patching potholes until all roads are covered, a process that should continue into late April.

Citizens are urged to report potholes to MetroCall by dialing 311 or 574-5000 or through an online form. Make sure you have the approximate address or nearest intersection.

Potholes on interstate highways should be reported to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet at 1-877-For-KYTC (367-5982).

RECYCLE at Sun Valley!

recycle

Help your community by recycling! Our landfills are a finite resource with only so much space to hold all of our community's trash. Recycling as much as possible keeps reusable materials from going to the landfill and extends the landfill's life. Councilwoman Fowler has partnered with Solid Waste Management to provide a Recycling Bin at Sun Valley Park to allow Southwest residents to dispose of recyclable materials for FREE!

(Only Paper, Cardboard, Plastic, and Glass are allowed. No hazardous materials or containers are permitted.)

WHERE: Sun Valley Park

6505 Bethany Lane

*Recycling Bin open during Park Hours
