Cleaning Up The Areas Where We Live.

Councilman David James is partnering with the University of Louisville to help make a difference in the California Neighborhood as part of U of L’s first ever Day of Service on Friday, April 17th.

With the help of student and staff volunteers, we will be working to clean up the areas around the California Community Center, Victory Park and the YMCA Safe Place on Crittenden Drive. This will be a day of helping the people who live in one of Louisville’s well established neighborhoods.

On Friday morning beginning at 8:30am, the volunteers will gather at U of L’s Grawemeyer Hall and then travel by bus to the three locations. First to the California Community Center located at 1600 West St. Catherine Street and then on to Victory Park and the YMCA Safe Place.

Then volunteers will be paired up in teams and given assignments to be accomplished throughout the day. Among the tasks to be accomplished are landscaping, creating a comfortable courtyard, spring cleaning assistance, outside mural touch up and painting.

We welcome all to come and see what is being done in your neighborhood. And maybe you can join in on the efforts!

Central Park is looking Good!

dgtkdtup;

On Saturday April 11, 2015 hundreds of volunteers gathered together at Central Park for the 2015 Central Park Spring Improvement Day. The morning started out brisk and cool, but turned out to be a perfect day to clean the park. Volunteers from all over Old Louisville picked up paint brushes, shovels, bags of mulch and so much more in order to help get Central Park in shape for all of the wonderful activities that are held during the spring and summer months.

With over 500 hundred volunteers in the park, the amount of work that was done exceeded all expectations. A special thank you goes out to all who participated this past saturday. Your help in this clean up has not gone unnoticed.

And a very special thank you to Lundy's and Jerry Lundergan who supplied all of the volunteers with lunch for the day.

Thank You from the office Councilman David James!

Walnut Street Baptist Church 200th Anniversary Block Party

Walnut Street traces its beginnings back to the First Baptist Church of Louisville, founded in 1815, and the Second Baptist Church of Louisville, founded in 1838. The members of these two early Baptist churches joined together in 1848 to form Walnut Street Baptist Church, located right in the heart of Louisville at the corner of 4th and Walnut Street.

Since her inception, Walnut Street has focused on meeting the call of Jesus to love God and Love others. Over many decades Walnut Street has planted well over 50 churches in the Louisville area, has been a leader in developing community ministries, and has had a passion for seeing Jesus’ name taken to the nations.

On this past Saturday April 11th, Walnut Street Baptist Church continued to minister to those in the neighborhood as they celebrated their 200th Anniversary with good food, live entertainment featuring "The Rascals of Ragtime"  sponsored by our Metro Councilman David James, magic shows, bounce houses and so much more. If you weren't there you missed out on all the fun!
