Minimum Wages Increase Passed By Metro Council

On Thursday, December 18th the Louisville Metro Council took to vote the issue of raising the minimum wage in Jefferson County. After a confusing time at the Metro Council meeting Thursday night, the council voted 16-9 to raise the minimum wage to $9.00 an hour over three years.

Activists and low wage workers who sat through the more than four-hour meeting cheered after the council voted with all 16 council Democrats present voting for the increase.

The law, which now goes to Mayor Fischer for his signature, increases the wage to $7.75 by July 2015, to $8.25 by July 2016 and $9 by July 2017.

Louisville Metro Council would like to thank all who voiced there opinion whether in opposition or in favor of Raising the minimum wage.

Public Archaeology Lab Program

ghyikf

Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing will offer the opportunity to learn about the archaeology projects that have taken place at the historic property in southwest Louisville through a free new program that begins in January.

While visitors have long been able to join in archaeology digs at the site, “The Other Side of Archaeology” offers the chance to get an up-close look at the artifacts that have been found at Riverside, participate in the process of how archaeologists learn about the past from them, and see what has been learned.

Participants will be able to wash, identify, and study artifacts, and take a behind-the-scenes tour. Led by a Kentucky Archaeological Survey archaeologist, the tours will take visitors to the locations of past and active archeological sites at Riverside, providing a perspective of life at the Farnsley-Moremen House and how archaeology has contributed to the identification and reconstruction of outbuildings on the property, like the detached kitchen, slave (later tenant) houses, smoke house, wash house, ice house and barn.

The Other Side of Archaeology will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates, with archaeology tours taking place at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on each day (weather permitting). For more information, call 502-935-6809 or email info@riverside-landing.org.
