A public meeting will be held Wednesday, November 5, to present the newly updated routes used for treating roads during snow and ice events in Louisville Metro and allow residents the opportunity to offer input into the 2014/2015 Snow Plan. The meeting will be in the Old Jail Courtroom, 514 W Liberty Street from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Louisville Metro Snow Team of about 265 employees, led by Public Works, also includes Metro Parks, the departments of Codes & Regulations, and Fleet and Facilities Services. There are 160 pieces of equipment in the snow-fighting fleet, ready to treat and clear more than 2,700 two-lane miles of roads throughout Louisville’s 386 square miles. Snow routes include major roads and connector streets. Neighborhood and subdivision streets are not treated, except under limited isolated circumstances and during declared snow emergencies. As a part of an ongoing agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, city crews will treat and clear most state roads---about 400 miles of roads—in Louisville. The state will continue to clear all interstates and ramps.

Louisville Business First – October 22, 2014

Crews have started demolition work related to a planned 93-unit apartment complex on Frankfort Avenue, according to a report from WDRB-TV.

It's a $10 million project that has been in the works for two years, according to the report. Some neighbors are worried about parking for the project, however.

Pre-leasing of the apartment units is expected to begin in spring. The apartments should be move-in ready by fall 2015, the report says.

This is a project we reported on earlier this month, after Indianapolis-based Milhaus Properties LLC purchased the site. The property, off Frankfort Avenue near Vernon Avenue, was sold for $1.05 million, according to a deed on file with the Jefferson County Clerk's office.

The Louisville Sports Commission and Cadence Sports announced the creation of Run Eva Bandman presented by VO2 Multisport - a new challenge event that allows runners/walkers to compete on a world-class cyclocross course that traverses pavement, grass, wooded trails, sand, stone steps, obstacles and steep hills. The event will be held on Nov. 8. at Eva Bandman Park, the site of the 2013 UCI Cyclocross World Championships and the 2012 UCI Masters Cyclocross World Championships.

The inaugural Run Eva Bandman will begin at 8 a.m., immediately before the eighth annual Derby City Cup - 15 sanctioned cyclocross races that showcase cyclists competing at the elite, masters and youth levels. Runners and walkers taking part in the Run Eva Bandman challenge run will experience a two-lap, chip-timed race that is approximately five kilometers.

For anyone who wants to experience the course in advance of the run, VO2 Multisport will be leading two training runs - Nov. 1, 2014, at 9 a.m. and Nov. 6, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. Runners just need to arrive at Eva Bandman 15 minutes before the start of the run.

Those interested in participating in Run Eva Bandman presented by VO2 Multisport can register online at TheDerbyCityCup.com. Registration is $40 online and $50 at packet pick-up and on race day. All participants will receive a tri-blend shirt.

To help prevent childhood lead poisoning, the Lead-Safe Louisville Project is sponsoring FREE lead inspections to qualified homeowners. Despite the continued presence of lead in the environment, lead poisoning is entirely preventable. Houses and apartments built before 1978 are most likely to have lead-based paint which can create a hazard to those living there. Key risk factors are chipping or peeling paint on doors, windows, woodwork or exterior siding. Children under 6 years of age are particularly prone to lead poisoning in such environments. Lead poisoning can cause nervous system and kidney damage, learning disabilities, speech problems, behavioral problems, hearing damage, decreased muscle and bone growth, seizures and even death (with high levels of lead).

The Lead-Safe Louisville Project, part of Louisville Metro Department of Develop Louisville, Office of Housing and Community Development, provides a free inspection and risk assessment for qualified property owners, whether owner-occupied, rental or multi-family units. If lead hazards are found on the property, the LSL Project may be able to provide funds to remediate them. In addition, each child under 6 years of age living in the home receives a free blood lead level screening test.

The FREE Mammogram screenings scheduled for October 17 was cancelled due to issues with the mammography bus. The rescheduled date is Saturday, November 22.
