Celebrate Recovery has been a great help to many in our community and church. We are happy to be able to offer this program at Fern Creek Baptist Church. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered group created by John Baker and Rick Warren (author of “The Purpose Driven Life”). The purposes of Celebrate Recovery are to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through the 12 steps and 8 Recovery Principles (based on the Beatitudes). Celebrate Recovery is not just for those who struggle with substance addictions. It is designed to help anyone struggling with hurts, habits or hang-ups. Please share this information with others who may also need this help. Actually, anyone who has sin in their lives is invited to come, which, of course, means that all people can benefit from this program. You are welcome to join us just for the worship time if we are not offering a support or recovery group that you feel will benefit you.

THE PARKLANDS ANNOUNCING CANOE, KAYAK, & PADDLEBOARD RENTALS
21st Century Parks is excited to partner with Green Earth Outdoors to provide canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals. Reservations are being taken now.
Parklands Members receive 15% off paddling services--just another reason to join today!
The Green Earth Outdoors livery service will operate normally near the North Beckley Paddling Access in Beckley Creek Park and offer three different day trips with shuttle service included. Day trips vary from one to seven hours depending on the length of the trip and water levels.
Rentals will also be available by the hour for paddlers seeking a leisurely float in slow water pools in Floyds Fork or in William F. Miles Lakes (perfect for beginners and anglers!) Most floats are self-guided but you may elect to add an instructor to your float for a guided paddle. Float prices range from $24-$71 depending on the craft and the length of the trip (before member discount). For paddlers who bring their own craft, a shuttle service will also be offered (for a small fee) on regular days of operation.
Rentals are available on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays beginning May 3, 2014 to Memorial Day Weekend and again after Labor Day to the end of October. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, rentals are available every day except Tuesdays (subject to change based on demand). Hours of operation are generally 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with the last trip departure time of 3:00 pm. Early morning and evening rental opportunities will be posted on the Green Earth Outdoors Facebook page. Floats are also available for school groups and corporate outings (to book a float for your group call The Parklands at 502-584-0350 and ask to talk to Sam or Kim).
Recreational paddling is one of the fastest growing outdoor sports activities in the nation and we're excited to work with the professionals at Green Earth Outdoors to offer all residents of the region an opportunity to experience first-hand the beauty of Floyds Fork from human-powered watercraft. City Refines Online Maps to Display Crime in Parks
Incidents in parks now tied to physical address
Louisville Metro Government has refined the city’s online maps to more accurately display crimes that occur in local parks. This improvement resulted from questions that arose from the recent crime by teenagers and young adults that started in Waterfront Park and moved into parts of downtown. Before the change, crimes in parks were being reported by GPS coordinate, but the city’s crime map only accepted physical address. As a result, crimes in parks were automatically displaying in a parking lot at 5th and Liberty streets, the geographic coordinate for “the City of Louisville.”
The situation has been corrected and the maps now display significant crimes that happen in parks, from Waterfront to Shawnee to Cherokee to Jefferson Memorial Forest.
The city’s maps show Part I FBI crimes — the most serious charges that includes homicides, auto theft, assaults, vandalism and robbery. The city’s technology team is now using physical addresses for the parks so that the crimes are more accurately displayed. Because of the vast areas covered by parks, crimes will show as a single pin. People should click on the pin to see all crimes in that area of the park.

The crime maps are part of the Fischer administration’s commitment to open data and transparency -- and part of a broader effort to put more information and services online. Since the crime map was introduced in 2007, it has only displayed FBI Part 1 crimes. LMPD and Metro Technology are in discussions about expanding the information on the maps to include all crime.

If you have a block watch or a neighborhood association, you can purchase "Operation Identification" stickers and place them inside a window facing outward. This communicates to a potential burglar that your property has been cataloged by serial number and photographed for immediate identification (e.g., jewelry or other unique items). This means that a burglar's chance of getting caught increases significantly. Did you know that pawn shops have to almost immediately log pawned items into a data base that LMPD can access when trying to identify stolen property? For more information, go to:

You may now call MetroCall (311 or 574-5000) and speak to a live representative Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. If you need to report an issue after hours or on the weekend, you may submit your concern online at: http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroCall/submit_a_concern.htm.
All you need to do is set up an account, which will allow you to login in the future and report something and see the history of your reports. There is also a link to download the mobile app to report an issue on your phone.
