This year's Brightside Community Cleanup will be great here in D13! Some terrific volunteers from Passport have committed to spruce up our area, so we're looking for additional folks to join them. We'll gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Playtorium for a light breakfast and snack items. Let my office know if you'll be volunteering so we can have supplies on hand for you. |

 Strength in Numbers Seminar
Organizing and Inspiring Independent Businesses In South Louisville
Free and open to the public.
WHO: You! If you are an independent business owner/employee, or simply a community-minded resident of South Louisville, we want you to be there.
WHY: Learn how the independent businesses that keep South Louisville unique and make the neighborhood economy strong can achieve greater success.
WHAT: The Keep South Louisville Weird campaign’s goals are stability and growth of current independent businesses in the area, the start of new independent businesses and the expansion of current independent businesses from other areas of town into South Louisville.
Joe Grafton (Director of Community Engagement for the American Independent Business Alliance - AMIBA) will be the facilitator. The Strength in Numbers event combines a presentation and workshop for an up-close look at how other Independent Business Alliances function and the lessons AMIBA has learned through their experience of helping more than 80 organizations through the process. Our focus will be on building a culture of support for entrepreneurship, local branding, organization, funding, and much more. Healthy Hometown Mini Grant Applications Available
The Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement is now accepting applications for 2014 mini-grants. The grants will range from $2,000 to $3,000 each and will fund activities that support physical activity, healthy nutrition, tobacco use prevention and cessation and chronic disease prevention and management.

Test Soil FREE Before Spring Planting
The Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering free soil testing to property owners wanting to plant vegetable gardens or improve lawns. Although fertilizer, lime, and other additives can help your plants, they pose a risk if not used properly. Excess fertilizer and chemicals wash away with rainwater and pollute our local streams and waterways. This is why soil testing is so important.
The Jefferson County SWCD is running a soil test incentive program to offset the cost of soil analysis for Louisville Metro residents. SWCD will provide up to 2 vouchers per household to cover the processing fee for a standard soil test. Vouchers are available by email, mail or may be picked up in person. Email voucher request (include name, physical address, phone number, and number of vouchers requested) to joy.edwards@ky.nacdnet.net. (maximum of 2 vouchers per household).
