When Calling MetroCall 311

Metroseal

We recently learned that MetroCall is no longer accepting calls 24/7.  MSD used to answer calls after hours but at the end of last year were no longer able to provide that service.  You may now call MetroCall (311 or 574-5000) and speak to a live representative Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  If you need to report an issue after hours or on the weekend you may submit your concern online at http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroCall/submit_a_concern.htm.  All you need to do is set up an account, which will allow you to login in the future and report something and see the history of your reports.  There is also a link to download the mobile app to report an issue on your phone.

Haldeman Avenue Road Repair by Louisville Water Company

LWC

The Louisville Water Company (LWC) asked that I share with you the following information.

Background: During the recent extreme weather snap, LWC experienced two, separate breaks on a section of 8-inch water main under Haldeman Avenue, near Brownsboro Road.  A third break was experienced in late 2013.  This section of roadway has a combination of angled brick pavers, flat brick pavers and asphalt.  The main break frequency on the water main in this section of roadway makes it a candidate for Louisville Water’s Main Replacement and Rehabilitation Program and we plan to replace this section of water main in 2015, pending project approval from the Board of Water Works.  LWC is only responsible for restoration of the areas impacted by the water main breaks.  It’s important to note that there are several areas of asphalt patchwork along this stretch of Haldeman Avenue from non- LWC related work.  LWC would like to find a reasonable paving solution that will have a long-life, is cost-effective and is within the guidelines of the Historic Landmarks and Preservation Districts Commission guidelines.  LWC believes the paving solution will include cost-sharing with Metro Public Works and, possibly, with other agencies.  Haldeman Avenue lies within the Clifton Historic Preservation District and a National Register District.  Learn more at http://www.louisvilleky.gov/PlanningDesign/Historic+Landmarks+and+Preservation+Districts+Commission.htm.

Discussion: In the short-term, LWC proposed patching the water main repair sites with asphalt.  This would happen within the next 2 weeks.  Councilwoman Ward-Pugh agreed to this proposal and LWC will move forward with the temporary asphalt patchwork.  LWC will prepare a proposal to present at a group meeting to address road restoration from 257 Haldeman Avenue to Brownsboro Road following the main replacement.  LWC will benchmark what other cities have done in similar scenarios.  For more information contact Christy Ray, Public Relations Specialist, Louisville Water Company, 502.569.3600 x2195, cray@lwcky.com

TARC Real-Time Bus Arrivals Now Available

TARC

TARC real-time bus arrival information for all stops is now available online through Google Maps and TARC’s own trip planner, making public transit an easier and more efficient travel option.  The real-time information is now best viewed on desktops through Google Maps and TARC’s trip planner at www.ridetarc.org. Efforts are underway to make the technology easily available across all platforms.  When searching directions on Google for transit trips, TARC passengers are already provided route options, step-by-step directions, estimated travel times and scheduled bus arrival times.  Both the Google Live Transit Update and the TARC real-time trip planner rely on the same datafeed with bus location information. The datafeed automatically updates bus location information every minute including adjustments for traffic and service delays.  In addition to bus arrival times, TARC’s trip planner includes route specific maps showing locations and movements of buses.  The new technology is part of TARC’s eTran - Enhanced Transit - initiative to modernize its service over the next few years.   Other eTran projects slated for later in 2014 include all-electric, zero-emissions buses to circulate downtown and electronic fare collection with “tap and go” smartcard technology. For more information visit www.ridetarc.org.

Pace Car Program Available in the 9th District!

Pace Car Sticker

The Pace Car Program is a citizen-based traffic calming initiative that encourages residents to take responsibility for their own driving while setting the "pace" for safer streets and neighborhoods.  Residents will be able to sign an official Pace Car registration form and pledge the following:

“Drive the speed limit on city streets, especially in residential areas, setting the pace for vehicles behind me; stop completely at STOP signs and don’t run red lights; be courteous to all bicyclists; pedestrians and other motorists; give myself enough travel time so that I am not sacrificing safety or courtesy; devote my full attention to driving by avoiding distractions, i.e.: cell phones; not be pressured by the impatience of other drivers to exceed the speed limit; keep my sense of humor, life’s too short to let driving stress my out!; and display the Metro Pace Car Program decals or bumper stickers.”

By signing this pledge you will receive an official Pace Car bumper sticker or car window sticker to display on your vehicle.  The sticker will alert other drivers that they are taking part in the citizen-based effort to address the problems of traffic speed and safety.

To sign up for this program please click here to download the Official Pledge Form.  Read, sign and date the form and return it to our office.  Please indicate if you would prefer a bumper or window sticker for the program.
