The Pace Car Program is a citizen-based initiative that encourages residents to take responsibility for
their own driving while setting the "pace" for safer streets and
neighborhoods. Residents can sign an official pace car registration
form and pledge to:
- Drive the speed limit on city streets,
especially in residential areas;
- Stop
completely at STOP signs and don’t run red lights;
- Be courteous to all
bicyclists; pedestrians and other motorists;
- give myself enough travel time so
that I am not sacrificing safety or courtesy;
- Devote my full attention to
driving by avoiding distractions, i.e.: cell phones;
- Ignore pressure or impatience of other drivers to exceed the speed limit;
- keep my sense of humor (life’s too short to let driving stress you out!);
-
Display the Metro Pace Car
Program decals or bumper stickers.
By signing the pledge, you can receive an
official pace car bumper sticker or car window sticker to display on your
vehicle, to alert other drivers you're setting the pace to address traffic, speed and
safety problems in our community.
To sign up you can click here to
download the Official Pledge Form, or contact our office for a copy. Read, sign and date the form and
return it to our office. Idicate if you would prefer a bumper or
window sticker, and we'll get your selected item out to you.

The Jefferson
County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering free soil testing for
Metro Louisville homeowners. A standard soil test—which covers what most
homeowners need to assess their fertilizer needs—is usually $7. To encourage
testing and avoid excess use of fertilizers and chemicals that wash away with
rain and can pollute streams and waterways, the Jefferson County SWCD provide
up to 2 vouchers per household to cover the $7 processing fee for a standard
soil test. To participate, you must request a soil test voucher. Email voucher
requests (with name, physical address, phone, and # of vouchers) to: joy.edwards@ky.nacdnet.net. Vouchers
can also be picked up at the SWCD office or requested by regular mail (4233
Bardstown Rd., Suite 100-A – 40208). Questions-call 502.499.1900.

As you
think about positive garden and lawn strategies like soiling testing and proper
use of fertilizers, another great idea is using a rain barrel. This a great way to save on watering expenses, while going your part to protect our environment. Below are resources for rain barrels and how to install and use them.

TARC
is seeking public comment through Nov. 21 on a new system set to begin this
summer that will allow rider to pay fares with the tap of a smartcard. Fares will not increase and cash will remain an option for exact
fares. Smartcard payments will replace paper tickets, passes and transfer slips.
Free transfer trips will remain available with smartcards, but not for cash
fares since drivers will no longer distribute paper transfer slips. TARC3 paratransit vehicles will not be part of
the initial system but are expected to be phased in at a later time.
Details
about the plans are available at ridetarc.org. Comments from the public will be reviewed and taken into consideration by the TARC Board of Directors before final
fare collection system decisions are made. Please use one or more of the methods below to share your comments through
Nov. 21.
