LIHEAP Pre-Registration Canceled Through End of October

Due to the federal government shutdown, LIHEAP (the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) in Jefferson County is suspended until further notice. Effective immediately, pre-registration sites scheduled during the remainder of October at various community and senior centers will be cancelled. As soon as a reinstatement of LIHEAP is confirmed, more information will be made available.

LIHEAP is funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services and is a pass through grant from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which contracts with Community Action Agencies across the state. Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership, part of CSR, is the local agency which administers LIHEAP.

The LIHEAP Subsidy Phase, the annual program that provides utility assistance to low income residents, was slated to being Nov. 12. Pre-registration opportunities are traditionally made available during the month of October for elderly and disabled residents, with funds posting on or after the official start date of Subsidy. The start of the Program is now pending until further determination can be made by the State Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

For more information about LIHEAP, visit our website at www.louisvilleky.gov/cap or call CAP at 574-1157 (TDD available at Metro Call – 574-5000); or Community Action Kentucky at 1-800-456-3452.

Fall Offers Outdoor Opportunities In Southwest Louisville

canoe

Last Saturday a great crowd came out to Riverview Park to take part in the Urban Wilderness Canoe Adventure. Despite some rain, groups were guided on a canoe trip on the Ohio to experience nature's beauty right in our backyards.

This Saturday, October 19, brings another chance to get outdoors and enjoy the autumn season with the Mayor’s Fall Hike & Outdoor Adventure at Jefferson Memorial Forest. From 10:00am to 2:00pm there will be pumpkin decorating, guided hikes, canoe and kayak demos, hayrides and the KentuckyOneHealth Four de Lis Fall Trail Run
